“Speak, LORD, for Your servant hears.” (NKJV)

Reflection

Samuel's humble response reminds believers that God's servants must first learn to listen. God speaks through His inspired Word, and those who approach it with humility receive wisdom for daily living. Listening also requires obedience. Knowledge without obedience produces little fruit, but hearts that respond to God's truth are transformed by it. Cultivate a listening heart by reading Scripture carefully and responding faithfully. A listening heart also requires patience. We are often eager for quick answers, yet Scripture calls us to slow down, consider what God has said, and allow His truth to correct us. It is possible to read the Bible rapidly while resisting the very instruction it gives. Samuel's posture was different: he presented himself as a servant ready to hear. That attitude should shape our own time with God's Word. Before reading, ask the Lord to expose wrong attitudes, clarify confused thinking, and show where obedience is needed. Then resist the temptation to treat conviction as merely interesting information. God speaks in Scripture so that His people may know Him and walk in His ways. Listening also improves our relationships with others. A person who has learned humility before God is often more willing to listen before speaking and less eager to defend himself. Cultivate that posture today. Be attentive to Scripture, receptive to correction, and ready to obey what the Lord has clearly revealed.
