Today's Bible Verse
Hebrews 11:6–10
And without faith it is impossible to please God. For anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in godly fear built an ark to save his family. By faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, without knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the promised land as a stranger in a foreign country. He lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
Today's Reflection
We often want God to show us the entire road before we are willing to take the first step. We want to know where obedience will lead, what it will cost, and how everything will turn out. Abraham was not given that luxury. God called him to go, and Abraham went.
Faith does not require that we know tomorrow. It requires that we trust the One who already does. God may reveal enough light for the step immediately in front of us while leaving the rest of the road hidden. That is not a failure of His guidance. It is an opportunity for us to trust Him.
Much of our anxiety comes from trying to carry responsibilities God has not given us. We revisit yesterday, worry about tomorrow, and neglect the obedience required today. But yesterday is already in God's hands, tomorrow is already known by Him, and today is where He has placed us.
When God's Word has made the next step clear, take it. We do not need to know the entire journey when we know the One who leads us.
Practical Application
- Before making an important choice, identify the biblical principles that should govern the decision rather than asking only what seems advantageous.
- Pray for wisdom and then gather enough truthful information to make a responsible decision.
- Refuse an opportunity that requires you to compromise something Scripture has made clear.
- Take the next clear step without demanding that God reveal every later step in advance.
- Invite wise counsel from a mature believer who is willing to tell you what you need to hear rather than merely what you want to hear.
