Bible Verse
Psalm 34:8
O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Reflection
The psalmist does not speak of God's goodness as a distant theory. “Taste and see” is experiential language. We come to know God's goodness not merely by discussing it but by trusting Him, walking with Him, remembering His works, and receiving His grace. That does not mean every experience feels good. David wrote many psalms from places of danger, betrayal, and fear. God's goodness is not measured by whether life currently matches our preferences. It is rooted in His character. We see it supremely in His mercy, His patience, His provision, His truth, and the salvation offered in Christ. Trust allows us to experience that goodness more deeply because it moves us from observation to dependence. A person can know many facts about food without ever tasting it; in a similar way, we can possess theological information while keeping God at a safe distance. Scripture calls us nearer. Prayer, obedience, worship, gratitude, and dependence are ways we place our weight upon what we say we believe. Over time, remembered experiences of God's faithfulness become part of the evidence by which we face new difficulties. Yesterday's goodness strengthens today's trust. Even when circumstances are painful, we can say that the Lord Himself remains good and worthy of confidence.
Practical Application
- Recall one specific way you have experienced God's goodness.
- Thank Him for that evidence instead of treating it as ordinary.
- Trust God with one present concern that remains unresolved.
- Share one testimony of God's faithfulness with another person.
- Read a psalm slowly and notice every statement about God's character.

Prayer
Good and faithful God, thank You for the many ways You have shown Your goodness to me. Help me remember Your faithfulness when circumstances are difficult and trust You with what I do not understand. Draw me nearer so that my knowledge of You becomes lived confidence. In Jesus' name, Amen.
