Bible Verse
Matthew 6:19–20
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth… but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.
Reflection
Our world constantly encourages us to pursue success, wealth, recognition, and possessions. While many of these things are not sinful in themselves, Jesus reminds us that none of them will last forever. Earthly treasures are temporary. They can be lost, stolen, or destroyed. Heavenly treasures, however, are eternal.
Living for eternity changes our priorities. We begin investing our time in God’s Word, serving others, sharing the gospel, supporting His work, and growing in Christlikeness. These investments have lasting value because they are rooted in God’s eternal kingdom.
Jesus is not calling His followers to neglect earthly responsibilities. Rather, He calls us to view every responsibility through the lens of eternity. Our work, our families, our resources, and our opportunities all become avenues for glorifying God.
One day every believer will stand before Christ. On that day, worldly accomplishments will fade into the background, but every act of faithful obedience done for His glory will remain.
The wisest investment we can ever make is one that lasts forever.
Practical Application
- Evaluate how you spend your time each week.
- Look for opportunities to invest in eternal things.
- Practice generosity toward God’s work and others.
- Share the gospel with someone this week.
- Ask yourself daily: “Will this matter in eternity?”

Prayer
Father, help me live with eternity in view. Guard my heart from becoming consumed with temporary things. Teach me to invest my life in what honors Christ and advances Your kingdom. May every day I live bring glory to You and point others to the hope found in Jesus. Amen.
