How to Use Clark’s Bible Cross References

Tip: There is no single “correct” way to use this tool.
Some studies begin with a verse, while others begin with a topic.
Allow Scripture to guide your study naturally from one passage to another,
comparing each text within the context of the whole counsel of God.

What is the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge (TSK)?

The Treasury of Scripture Knowledge (TSK) is one of the most respected cross-reference resources ever compiled. Rather than providing commentary or interpretation, it connects passages of Scripture that share common words, themes, events, doctrines, prophecies, people, and biblical concepts. The purpose of this tool is not to tell you what to believe, but to help you discover how Scripture interprets Scripture by leading you to related passages throughout the Bible.

Two Ways to Study

This tool offers two complementary methods of study.

Bible Verse Lookup

Use the Bible Verse tab when you already have a specific passage in mind. Simply enter a single Bible reference (for example, John 3:16 or Revelation 17:5) and the tool will display the cross references compiled within the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge. As you explore those references, you can simply click any returned Scripture reference to continue your study. This creates a natural chain of related passages without repeatedly typing additional searches.

Bible Topics Lookup

The Bible Topics tab searches the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge’s own headings. Begin typing at least three characters and a searchable list of matching headings will appear. Selecting a heading immediately displays every TSK entry associated with that topic. This is often the quickest way to discover where Scripture discusses a particular person, place, event, doctrine, or recurring biblical theme.

Using Both Methods Together

The greatest strength of this resource is found by combining both search methods.

For example, you might begin with a verse such as:

Revelation 17:5

The Verse Lookup provides numerous related passages. While examining those passages, you may notice recurring topics such as Babylon, Kings, or Merchants. Selecting one of those topics allows you to expand your study even further using the Topic Lookup. In this way your study naturally progresses from an individual verse, to related passages, to broader biblical themes.

Blue Letter Bible Integration

Scripture references displayed by this tool are integrated with the Blue Letter Bible. Simply place your mouse over a Scripture reference to view the corresponding Bible passage without leaving the page. Clicking a Scripture reference performs a new Verse Lookup within this tool, allowing you to continue exploring related passages while remaining within your study.

A Word About Cross References

Cross references are intended to assist your study, not replace careful biblical interpretation. Some references highlight direct quotations or fulfilled prophecy. Others emphasize similar language, parallel events, shared doctrines, recurring themes, or historical connections. Not every reference represents an exact doctrinal parallel. For that reason, every suggested passage should be read within its own literary and historical context.

Like every resource on this website, this tool is offered as an aid to personal Bible study rather than as a final authority. Use these cross references to compare Scripture with Scripture. Read each passage in its context. Test every conclusion against the whole counsel of God.
