Today’s Bible Verse

Ephesians 2:8 ESV: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God

Today’s Reflection

Grace is the gospel’s most tender word. It tells us that salvation is not a wage we earn but a gift we receive. Paul’s reminder in Ephesians 2:8 cuts against every instinct to perform, to prove, or to earn God’s favor. For those who have carried the heavy load of trying to be good enough, this truth is liberating: God’s acceptance is not based on your résumé of righteousness but on Christ’s righteousness credited to you.

Grace does not cheapen holiness. Instead, it empowers it. When you understand that you are loved and accepted by God apart from your performance, you can serve out of gratitude rather than obligation. The gospel’s grace motivates obedience because it springs from love, not fear. It also reshapes how we relate to others: we become people who extend mercy because we have received mercy.

Many people struggle with legalism or with the opposite error of treating grace as a license to live carelessly. The New Testament balances grace and transformation: we are saved by grace through faith, and that faith produces a life increasingly shaped by Christ. The Spirit works in us to bear fruit, not to earn favor but to reflect the One who saved us.

If you are weary from striving, let grace speak to your heart today. Receive God’s gift. Rest in His acceptance. Then let that rest fuel a life of joyful obedience.

Practical application

  • Receive, then respond. Begin each day by thanking God for salvation as a gift, then ask how He wants you to live in response.

  • Replace performance with gratitude. When you catch yourself striving for approval, pause and rehearse Ephesians 2:8 aloud.

  • Show grace to others. Intentionally forgive someone or offer help without expectation of return.

  • Teach the gift. In family or small group settings, explain salvation as gift, not achievement, and discuss how that changes daily choices.

Prayer

Gracious Father, thank You that salvation is Your gift. Free us from the burden of earning Your love. Fill us with gratitude that leads to faithful living. Help us to extend the same grace to others that You have shown to us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
