Today’s Bible Verse

Philippians 1:3-11 ESV:I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, [4] always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, [5] because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. [6] And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. [7] It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. [8] For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. [9] And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, [10] so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, [11] filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Today’s Reflection

Every believer experiences seasons of spiritual growth and seasons of struggle. There are times when our faith feels strong and vibrant, and there are times when we become discouraged by our own weaknesses and failures. During those moments, it is easy to wonder whether God has given up on us. Philippians 1 reminds us that He never does.

The Apostle Paul wrote these words while imprisoned for preaching the Gospel. Although his circumstances were difficult, Paul’s confidence rested not in himself or in the Philippian believers, but in the faithfulness of God. He declared with certainty that the God who began the work of salvation would also bring it to completion.

This is wonderful encouragement for every Christian. Our salvation begins with God’s grace, continues by God’s grace, and will one day be completed by God’s grace. While we are called to grow in obedience and pursue holiness, our confidence is not found in our own strength but in God’s unfailing faithfulness.

Every believer knows the struggle against sin. We all have moments we wish we could undo and failures we deeply regret. Yet God is never surprised by our weaknesses. Peter denied the Lord three times, Thomas doubted, and Mark abandoned Paul on his first missionary journey. Yet God restored each of them and continued using them for His glory.

The Christian life is often a slow process of transformation. God patiently shapes our character, renews our minds through His Word, and teaches us to depend more fully upon Him. Growth may seem slow, but God is always at work, even when we cannot immediately see the progress.

The writer of Hebrews reminds us to fix our eyes on Jesus,

“...the founder and perfecter of our faith… (Hebrews 12:2, ESV)

What God starts, He finishes. His promises never fail, and His purposes are never abandoned. If you belong to Christ, you can rest in the assurance that the Lord is continuing His work in your life today.

Rather than becoming discouraged by how far you still have to go, thank God for how far He has already brought you. Every step of spiritual growth is evidence of His grace at work within you.

Practical application

Take a few minutes today to reflect on how God has changed your life since you first trusted Christ. Thank Him for His patience and faithfulness, and ask Him to continue shaping you into the likeness of His Son. When discouragement comes, remember that your confidence rests not in your own performance, but in God’s promise to complete the work He has begun.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your unfailing faithfulness. Thank You for beginning the work of salvation in my life and for promising never to abandon it. Help me to trust You when I become discouraged by my weaknesses, remembering that You are still at work within me. Continue to shape my heart, strengthen my faith, and make me more like Jesus each day. May I live with confidence, knowing that what You begin, You always finish.

In Jesus’ name,
