Today’s Bible Verse
Ephesians 6:1 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.”
Today’s Reflection
God has established the family as the primary place where children learn love, discipline, responsibility, and respect for authority. Long before children understand the responsibilities of adulthood, God teaches them a simple principle that lays the foundation for a godly life: obedience.
Paul says that children are to obey their parents “in the Lord.” This instruction assumes that parents are directing their children according to God’s principles and not asking them to violate God’s Word. Obedience is more than merely following instructions; it reflects an attitude of respect toward the authority God has established.
Learning obedience within the home prepares children to respect teachers, employers, government authorities, and ultimately God Himself. A rebellious spirit left unchecked in childhood often produces unnecessary hardship later in life.
Parents also carry a tremendous responsibility. Their authority should never be exercised harshly or selfishly but with love, consistency, and wisdom. Children thrive where discipline is balanced with encouragement and where God’s Word shapes the atmosphere of the home.
Even as adults, believers should continue honouring their parents whenever possible. While obedience changes as children become independent adults, honour never goes out of style. Gratitude, respect, kindness, and care for aging parents remain pleasing to God.
Strong families do not happen by accident. They are built day by day as each member seeks to honour Christ by fulfilling the role God has given them.
Practical Application
- Thank God for your parents or those who raised you.
- If you are a child, obey promptly and respectfully.
- If you are a parent, lead your children with patience.
- Ask forgiveness where relationships need healing.
- Pray together as a family today.

Prayer
Father,
Thank You for the gift of family. Help children to obey with willing hearts and parents to lead with wisdom and love. May our homes honour You and reflect Your goodness to those around us.
Amen.
