Today’s Bible Verse

Ezekiel 36:26 ESV:I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.

Today’s Reflection

This verse offers one of the most hopeful promises in all of Scripture. God speaks to a people who had failed, wandered, and broken covenant. Yet instead of abandoning them, He promises transformation—deep, internal, spiritual renewal.

God does not simply offer a fresh start; He offers a new heart. A new heart means new desires, new motivations, new affections, and a new direction. It means God is not merely improving the old life but creating something entirely new within us.

This promise finds its fulfillment in the work of the Holy Spirit. When we come to Christ, God does not leave us to struggle in our own strength. He places His Spirit within us, empowering us to walk in obedience, love, and holiness. The Christian life is not about trying harder; it is about living from the new heart God has given us.

Many believers feel discouraged because they still struggle with old habits or patterns. But Ezekiel 36 reminds us that transformation is a process. God is continually shaping, refining, and renewing us. The presence of struggle does not mean the absence of transformation. It means God is still at work.

A new heart also means new identity. You are not defined by your past, your failures, or your weaknesses. You are defined by the work God is doing within you. He is the One who gives new life, new hope, and new purpose.

Practical application

  • Invite God to search your heart. Pray: “Lord, continue Your work in me. Shape my desires to reflect Yours.”
  • Walk in the Spirit. Make space each day for Scripture, prayer, and quiet reflection. Transformation grows where the Spirit is welcomed.
  • Celebrate progress, not perfection. Notice small changes. Thank God for every step forward.

Prayer

Lord God,

Thank You for the promise of a new heart and a new spirit. Thank You that You do not leave me as I am, but You continue to shape me, renew me, and transform me by Your grace. Today I ask You to keep working in me. Remove anything in my heart that does not honor You, and plant in me desires that reflect Your love, Your purity, and Your truth.

Holy Spirit, fill me with Your presence. Strengthen me where I am weak. Renew my mind, soften my heart, and guide my steps. Help me walk in the new life You have given me—not in my own strength, but in Yours.

Lord, let my life show the work You are doing within me. Make me patient, humble, and teachable. Help me celebrate progress, even when it feels small, knowing that You are faithfully completing the good work You began.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
